Mic Drop practically explores the use of rhyme within Shakespeare’s plays. Engaging learners physically with the use of rhyme in performance.
Begin by explaining to learners that when a character is using rhyme, they are doing so to make a definitive point. The best way to think of this is as a ‘Mic Drop’ moment for the character.
Ask learners to perform the scene, when they come to rhyme in their text, they must physically and vocally act as if they are dropping a microphone to emphasise the point they are making. If one character starts the rhyme and the other finishes it, learners should treat this as a battle for the best mic drop.
Following the application of this in practice, explain to learners that it is important to be guided by the punctuation, as they have explored in the previous tools. Adding additional pauses, which have not been directed by the major punctuation, will diminish the rhymes ability to be a mic drop moment.
